Regional Language (Unicode) SMS

Send bulk SMS in Hindi, Marathi, Tamil, Telugu, Bengali, Gujarati and other Indian languages with Unicode SMS. Character limits, DLT templates and tips.

Many customers read their own language more easily than English. Unicode SMS lets you send messages in Hindi and other Indian scripts to any phone. As a bulk SMS service provider in India, PromoMarketingSolution helps you with every step.

Character limits

Because Unicode messages hold fewer characters, a regional-language message often splits into more parts. Each part is billed, so keep messages short.

EncodingSingle SMSEach part of a long SMS
English (GSM)160 characters153 characters
Unicode (Indian scripts)70 characters67 characters

DLT templates in regional languages

Templates must be registered on DLT in the same language and script you will send. A Hindi message cannot be sent on an English template, even if the meaning is identical.

Tips

  • Write in the script customers use, not transliterated English
  • Avoid mixing English and Indian scripts — one Unicode character makes the whole message Unicode
  • Test on common handsets before large sends
