Transactional SMS carries the messages customers are waiting for: one-time passwords, payment and account alerts, order and delivery updates. Because they are expected and time-sensitive, Indian rules let them reach every number, at any hour. As a bulk SMS service provider in India, PromoMarketingSolution helps you with every step.
What counts as transactional SMS
Under TRAI's TCCCPR framework and DLT, the strict 'transactional' category is reserved for OTPs that complete a banking transaction. Most other non-promotional messages — order confirmations, delivery updates, account alerts — are registered as service implicit messages. In everyday use, both are called transactional SMS, and both are sent on the same fast routes.
- OTPs for login, sign-up and payments
- Debit, credit and balance alerts
- Order, shipping and delivery updates
- Appointment and booking confirmations
- Password reset and account change notices
How transactional SMS is delivered
Each message is checked against your DLT-registered template and 6-letter header, then sent on a priority route to the operator. Delivery reports come back per message, so your system knows whether the code or alert reached the handset.
Transactional and service messages are not restricted by DND preferences or time-of-day windows, which is why they suit OTPs and alerts that cannot wait.
Getting started
You need a DLT entity registration, a 6-letter header and approved templates. We help with all three during onboarding, then you can send from the web panel or integrate the SMS API.
Frequently asked questions
Can transactional SMS be sent to DND numbers?
Yes. Transactional and service implicit messages are delivered to all numbers, including those on the DND registry, as long as the template is registered on DLT.
Can I send transactional SMS at night?
Yes. Transactional and service messages can be sent 24×7. Only promotional SMS is limited to daytime hours.
Can I include an offer in a transactional SMS?
No. Any promotional content turns the message into promotional SMS, which needs a promotional template and numeric header.
